entering a new era

In 2024, CHCH Television marked a significant milestone with the opening of its brand-new headquarters at 4 Innovation Drive in suburban Hamilton. The move signaled more than just a change of address; it marked a bold shift into the future for one of Canada’s most established independent broadcasters.

After saying goodbye to its original downtown Hamilton home on Jackson Street West, where the station had operated since its founding in 1954, CHCH embarked on a new chapter, one focused on technological innovation, digital expansion, and operational transformation. Jump was brought on to design this next-generation space, translating CHCH’s rich legacy into a contemporary environment that supports both the demands of modern broadcasting and the culture of a rapidly evolving workplace.

Our design approach paid tribute to CHCH’s longstanding legacy while embracing the needs of a modern, forward-thinking media organization. A central feature of the new space is Studio South; a state-of-the-art, fully digital broadcast studio designed to meet current production demands and future adaptability. Spanning 3,500 square feet, the studio includes a 360-degree anchor desk, flexible lighting systems, and a generous open layout that significantly expands on the spatial limitations of CHCH’s former facilities. Working in close coordination with CHCH’s technical team, we ensured the space could accommodate evolving broadcast formats and equipment, all within a streamlined, visually cohesive environment.

Beyond the studio, the workplace was designed to foster speed, clarity, and collaboration across all departments. Editorial, production, and digital teams now operate within a connected, open environment that supports the demands of a fast-paced newsroom. Custom multi-screen workstations, acoustically responsive planning, and rapid-turnaround editing bays were incorporated to meet the technical needs of modern content creation. With CHCH’s growing focus on digital storytelling, we also prioritized robust infrastructure and broadcast-ready desk setups to ensure seamless content delivery across all platforms.

Brand, culture, and flexibility are woven throughout the space. Subtle nods to CHCH’s Jackson Street heritage appear in material choices and graphic details, while bold architectural gestures and modern finishes signal a fresh era. A variety of meeting and breakout zones support both focused work and spontaneous collaboration, reflecting the dynamic rhythm of news production. Shared amenities, including a central café, promote a sense of community and wellbeing. More than just a functional broadcast hub, the new CHCH headquarters is a platform for growth, storytelling, and continued connection to the communities they serve.
